Hi Pete,

You are right. Search engines SHOULDN'T be indexing those session id's, but even Google wants to be naughty once in a while and index them anyway. You CAN'T prevent SID from being indexed when a customer decides to link to a specific URL with (unfortunately) the SID. There are still a lot URL's <a href="http://goo.gl/mLjS" rel="nofollow">with SID indexed</a>, this addon prevents it by just removing the SID. For filters, variables and sessions is even why Google introduced the canonical tag in the first way.

I am clearly missing something with this osCommerce contribution. What else does it do, other than remove the SID from the URL?
I ask because if a store is set up correct, a bot shouldn't be starting a session. Thanks.

Looks cery interesting. However, only 60% of our orders comes from new customers. Shall this have an effect too? Maybe I have to combine this with an autologin contri for OS?
I have been thinking of giving customers the choice not to register as customer, but on the other hand i've heard that Dutch customers (women) don't mind to register as a customer.

<i>What did you think of Jim Boykin’s session? I honestly felt he didn’t prepare as much as he should’ve and the one method wasn’t too great as is doesn’t apply to everyone. Maybe my expectations were too high. I’ll be attending the 21 Top Converting Website session as well! See you there</i>

To Admin - I posted this in the previous post but it might be more relevant in this one...
--

I’m having the following issue after some changes in oscommerce: our shop exists in 3 languages. Product info pages are accessible through the following URLs:

/product-name-dutch-p-1.html
/product-name-english-p-1.html?language=dutch
/product-name-french-p-1.html?language=french

Will this contribution take care of this problem? Obviously I want the canonical URL be the URL in the correct language, and that the URLs in the 2 other languages with the language variable behind redirect to the first one.

Thanks for your answer

Hello,

I see there is no answer on the last comment - I don't know if this discussion is still active or not. I can imagine you want to move on after a certain point :)

Hi Ross! The session of Jim Boykin wasn't the best i've seen at SES unfortunately. It even raised some questions on some of his 'tactics', methods and theories. Brain Eisenberg was absolutely stunning. Read more about it here later. What was your favorite session Ross?

With the domain www. and non .www issues just use a redirect in the .htaccess file. I have a question about the canonical urls though. My installation of osc has at least 3 urls for each product, one with just the product_id, one with the catgory path and one with the manufacturers id. Which would you choose as a canonical url for these three?
